Car Accidents continue to rise in Canada, Toronto and surrounding Cities
June 20, 2019Many drivers in Ontario may fail to know that cyclists can be charged for the same offences as other drivers on the road under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act. This lack of knowledge, causes certain drivers to feel that cyclists own the road and therefore, if an accident does occur, the driver that is driving a motor vehicle will automatically be charged for careless driving.
Contrary to this erroneous belief, bicycles are classified as vehicles under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act and cyclists are subject to the same charges as other drivers on the road for any Highway Traffic Act offences. For instances charges for distracted driving can range from $400.00 to $2,000.00 depending on the severity of offence.
